Over the Edge is an organization that supports nonprofits by running a unique and exciting rappelling event. St. Joseph is lucky to be a location where this event takes place, and it benefits Voices of Courage Child Advocacy Center. It’s a fun and thrilling way for you, your company, friends or family to support children in need in our communities throughout Northwest Missouri.
For this event, participants raise $1,000 for the opportunity to rappel the 14 stories of the Corby Place building, 422 Felix Street in downtown St. Joseph. Sounds hard? We have had participants who raised their $1,000 in as little as 3 days, and for some it takes a few months. But, it’s easy to do and there are a lot of ways to raise funds. Company matches, social media blasts, asking friends, family and co-workers are just a few of the ways to get there.
Anyone can be a participant. Young, old, moms, dads, grandparents, CEO’s, elected officials or those running for office, and individuals of all ability levels (however, you must weigh between 100-300 pounds). On October 12, 2024, participants and their families can enjoy not only watching the rappels, but food vendors, kids’ games and more. It’s a fun day for all! We hope you will joins us. A big thank you to Kelsey House and Taylor Larsen for braving the roof and taking photos of our brave edgers!
THANK YOU!
Thanks to your generous donations, Voices of Courage can continue to provide FREE mental health and forensic interview services to children throughout Northwest Missouri. Children experiencing abuse and trauma need a safe place to disclose what’s happening to them, receive help and heal. We are that place for hundreds of children each year. By donating, you are helping – you are a Hero for Kids!
How does Voices of Courage use the money raised at Over the Edge?
Every $1,000 provides 4 Forensic Interviews. Our CAC conducted 500 interviews last year, at a cost of $125,000.
OR
Every $1,000 provides 10 therapy sessions. Our CAC conducted 1,026 sessions last year at a cost of $102,600.
All services provided are at NO COST to the family.
Victims of crime should not have to pay for the services they need for healing to begin.
Anyone can do it!
You don’t have to be an athlete or a young, strong person to rappel. Families have gone down the side of Corby side by side. Grandparents have rappelled as their families watch from below. There is no age limit – young or older doesn’t matter as long as you weigh between 100-300 pounds – you can rappel.
