Last fall, the CAC brought a new fundraiser to the St. Joseph area with our Over the Edge St. Joseph event. At this event, we sent 37 brave people ‘Over the Edge’ of the Hillyard building in beautiful downtown St. Joseph. Each person rappelled 8 stories, raising money to help abused kids in our area. It was a fun event, and something we haven’t seen here before.
So why participate this year?
- Well, first off – it’s fun! Many people don’t get a chance to experience something like this.
- Almost anyone can do it! You don’t have to be athletic or have rappelling experience to participate.
- Your age doesn’t matter (almost)! If you are between 14 and 18, you will need a parent or guardian to sign the waiver. If you are over 18, there is no limit to the age for an “Edger”. They have seen people as advanced as 95 years do this event in other cities.
- The only limit is weight – you must weigh between 100 and 300 pounds. This is not an issue of rope strength, it’s about harness sizes.
- Raising the $1,000 required to rappel is much easier than you think. And, we’ll help you along the way with ideas and encouragement to make it to your goal.
The big and final reason to participate? Because you will be helping heal abused kids in Northwest Missouri! The donations you bring in help us fund our services – which are specific to helping those kids. When kids are abused, they have a hard time moving on from that abuse by themselves. We help them navigate the tough spots and give them a chance to become the person they were meant to be.
You can be a part of that! What better use of one’s time can there be but to invest in these children? We know from research that many of the ailments suffered by our society today are a result of unresolved childhood trauma. You can help make a better future for these kids and, in turn, for St. Joseph and the surrounding area.
